In the heat of the argument for more female superhero movies, Marvel president Kevin Feige says the studio is "committing" to making a stand-alone Black Widow film.

Scarlett Johansson has portrayed secret agent assassin Natasha Romanova in five Marvel films, the character's intrigue seeming to hold its own despite critical review of her performances. Johansson as an actress also has a past history of popular films, even poorly rated flicks like Lucy grossing a justifiable amount of cash.

Feige dropped the studio's stance in a new interview with Deadline after asked if any of the heroes featured in Captain America: Civil War (released Friday) would have their own time:

"We’ve announced the next nine movies, 10 counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned [Falcon, War Machine, Black Widow, Hawkeye] I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow."

When asked why she was the favored candidate, Feige laid praise on Johansson herself:

"We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise."

As Feige mentioned, the next 10 Marvel films have been accounted for and scheduled out, so Black Widow likely wouldn't see her time in the spotlight for years.

It is, however, good to know that an act for diversification is on their radar.
