It's rare that professional athletes know when they want to retire, let alone the exact date. But for Shaquille O'Neal his retirement date is more like a countdown to the day his life will change forever.
"My basketball career will be over in 735 days," 36-year-old O'Neal told News 13 television in Orlando, Fla. "And being an educated man, I've always had things to fall back on."
It's true actually, what most people might not know about Shaq is that he's always had a healthy interest in law enforcement. He even went as far as completing training with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Reserve Academy, and serving as a reserve officer with the L.A. Port Police. A
After being drafted to the Orlando Magic, then playing for the Miami Heat, the LA Lakers and now the Suns the 7-foot center says he'll retire, and most likely pursue a career in law enforcement.
If he goes that route, he shouldn't look forward to participating in any undercover busts. Now, keep in mind I'm not a trained law enforcement official, but something tells me it would be pretty difficult to successfully disguise a 7-foot tall celebrity basketball player.
Either way, in 735 days, Shaq's presence in the NBA will be dearly missed.
