True Blood actor Nelsan Ellis has passed away. He was 39.
Ellis, who played Lafayette Reynolds on the hit HBO series until its 2014 series finale, succumbed to complications with heart failure, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"He was a great talent, and his words and presence will be forever missed," talent agent Emily Gerson Saines told the site.
HBO went on to share a statement on Ellis' death:
"We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nelsan Ellis. Nelsan was a long-time member of the HBO family whose groundbreaking portrayal of Lafayette will be remembered fondly within the overall legacy of True Blood. Nelsan will be dearly missed by his fans and all of us at HBO."
Following True Blood, Ellis appeared in CBS' Elementary as Shinwell Johnson.
He is survived by his son, Breon Ellis.
