Wait, did you hear that? It might've been the echoes of Tom Hiddleston's hysterical crying.
During the promotional tour for her forthcoming film Equals, Kristen Stewart and her co-star, Nicholas Hoult, had a rather interesting conversation about the James Bond franchise. While Hoult humbly claimed he was too young for the role and would prefer to see Idris Elba as the new star, Stewart had some different ideas about who should portray the iconic British super spy.
“I think I'm a little bit too young, to be honest,” said Hoult. “He's like [in his] 30s, 40s.”
“Yeah, but that's like getting a little stale,” Stewart interjected.
Preach, girl. PREACH. Stewart then imagined how a female version of the character could be introduced to the world.
“You start off as the Bond girl and then you think it’s just the girlfriend and then you’re like, ‘She’s actually [Bond],’” Stewart said. “In the trailer, it’s him and then [a] bait and switch.”
Stewart isn't the first actress to advocate for a female bond. Gillian Anderson responded to a fan campaign that wanted her as the new 007. “Will it ever happen in the real world? More than probably not,” Anderson stated.
Priyanka Chopra has also expressed interest in the role, revealing she'd rather play Bond than a Bond girl. Similarly, Elizabeth Banks explained that portraying James Bond was a dream of hers. While Stewart didn't advocate for herself to play the role, her suggestion that the next generation of Bond should be gender-flipped is certainly an interesting one and in line with her colleagues.
