In June, 18-year-old Winter, who plays the cerebral Alex Dunphy, posted a picture of herself at her own high school graduation party. The pic received heavy criticism due to her outfit, a pink bandage dress with a cut-out in the chest.
While the pic was meant to document a meaningful mile stone in the teen's life, fans chose to focus on the actress's choice of dress. Since then, Winter has been unafraid to post images of herself, even letting her Twitter followers know she was unashamed:
And now, 17-year-old Gould, who plays Winter's younger brother Luke Dunphy in the hit ABC series, is sticking up for his friend.
In red carpet interview with E! News, Gould was asked his thoughts on the hate Winter had been through since posting the pic:
"Ariel Winter, your co-star, has kind of gone through some mean people, some trolls on social media," a reporter stated. "How do you feel about that?"
But according to Gould, Winter is one tough cookie:
"Yeah, I mean it's really awful what she's going through," he responded. "Weirdly, I don't ever get that. Everyone's really nice to me. I think Ariel is such a strong individual, she doesn't even need me to tell her. She's always got it handled, but if she ever does, I'm always there for her. She's just like my big sister. Whatever she wants to talk about, I'm always there."
If this caliber of support isn't the very definition of a "modern family," we don't know what is.
