Oliver Stone is known for some bold choices and "W" looks to be no exception.
The movie opens tomorrow across the country (see pictures from the New York premiere here). If you've seen the trailer, you know the cast isn't exactly the spitting image of their counterparts in the White House, but they have captured some of the essense of their characters.
We're giving you a side-by-side on the entire cast shown in the trailer so you can judge for yourself. Be sure to take our poll and vote for who looks most like his or her counterpart after you've seen them all!
Actor:Josh Brolin You Know Him From: "No Country For Old Men" and "American Gangster" In The Trailer: Goes from swaggering drunkard to smirking president. The Look: 7/10 He looks the part, but I'm reserving judgment. In pictures it almost looks like he's really forcing that frown downwards. It's a fine line between portrayal and parody. And that line is dangerously clear when the source material is still so close to the public.
Actress:Elizabeth Banks You Know Her From: "Scrubs" and "Fred Claus" The Look: 4/10 When Hollywood gets hold of material like this, you know the actors are going to be prettier than their real life counterparts, but yeesh. Have you seen her? Really, we couldn't cast this part a little older?
Actor:James Cromwell You Know Him From: "Six Feet Under" and "24" In The Trailer: Berates "Junior" for acting like a Kennedy. The Look: 7/10 Cromwell is a name when it comes to charactor actors and he knows how to pull this off. He isn't trying too hard with the look and THANK GOD he isn't doing that Dana Carvey version of Bush Sr.
Actress:Ellen Burstyn You Know Her From: "Requiem For a Dream" and "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" The Look: 6/10 At least she's age appropriate. Really though, are there any actresses who look mean enough to play the real Bush matriarch?
Actor:Richard Dreyfuss You Know Him From: "Jaws" and "Tin Man" The Look: 10/10 That's no typo, the man playing Dick Cheney is indeed Richard Dreyfuss. In his few frames on screen, it's hard to tell if the look holds up under scrutiny. But look at it. It looks like they got Dick's not-so-evil twin to come be in the movie. Awesome.
Actor:Scott Glenn You Know Him From: "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Freedom Writers" The Look: 6/10 I'll leave some room for Scott Glenn to convince me, but from these few frames, he looks like he's trying a little hard.
Actor: Ioan Gruffudd You Know Him From: "The Fantastic Four" The Look: 4/10 Talk about skewing young. He's Tony Blair, not Jude Law. Ioan's definitely going to have to show tougher chops than he used in either of those awful "Fantastic Four" movies.
Actor: Toby Jones You Know Him From: Honestly you probably don't The Look: 7/10 Of all the characters in Bush's inner circle, this has to be one of the most coveted roles. Rove is the mad genius of the Republican party and if this role has any screen time, it could make or break a character actor.
