Fifty Shades of Grey is the latest literature franchise to enter the pop culture zeitgeist, and Hollywood can't wait to sink it's teeth into the material. Unlike
Potter and
Games however,
Shades skews more adult. Instead of wizardry or reality TV teen death matches,
Fifty Shades of Grey, the first novel in a trilogy by E.L. James, built its hype on sex. The erotic best sellers made headlines for their explicit sex scenes and no-holds-barred look at BDSM fetishes.
Just how the racy content will translate on the big screen has fans amped with anticipation, and just who should play the role of Anastasia Steele, a college graduate who falls for business magnate Christian Grey, has message boards exploding all across the Internet. After shooting a
Shades parody for Funny or Die, Selena Gomez was thrust into the Anastasia sweepstakes. Unfortunately for Selena fans, the 19-year-old singer/actress removed herself from consideration, saying, "I know I'm taking risks, but I don't think I could do [
Fifty Shades of Grey]. That would be a little too much for me. … Someone older should do the part."
So, if not
Selena Gomez, who should play the saucy part? After serving the tween market with
Twilight,
Kristen Stewart could make a leap into more adult material with the role (after all the character is kind of based on her). The same could be said for
Hunger Games' star
Jennifer Lawrence. The fan push for Ian Somerhalder to play Christian Grey would make
Nina Dobrev a natural Anastasia. And
Pretty Little Liars star
