'Princess and the Frog' Features First African American Disney Princess

The Princess and the Frog opens in wide release in theaters today, after opening in select cities November 25. It features the first African American princess, Tiana (voice of Anika Nani Rose), and is being screened for children from the Boys & Girls Club at Walmart stores in multiple states, according to CNN.

The film is loosely based on the ED Baker novel The Frog Princess, which was then turned into a Grimm Brothers fairytale, The Frog Prince. The Disney movie was originally called The Frog Princess, then was changed in April 2007. The first trailer of the movie premiere in 2008, so it's been a long wait for the 49th animated Disney feature.

The movie is about a prince who gets turned into a frog by a voodoo magician in the French Quarter of New Orleans in the 1920s. In order to break the spell and turn back into a prince, he must convince a princess to kiss him.
