Disney fans may know Ross Lynch for his work in Teen Beach Movie and for fronting the band R5, but his next project will be taking him into much darker territory. The 20-year-old actor and singer will be playing a 17-year-old Jeffrey Dahmer in a film adaptation of the graphic novel My Friend Dahmer.
Like its source material, the movie will explore Dahmer's high school years from the perspective of a classmate who was probably about as close a thing as Dahmer had to a friend at the time. The book, written and illustrated by cartoonist Derf Backderf, reveals a tortured and neglected young Dahmer, foreshadowing the grisly crimes for which he was later be convicted. The story follows Dahmer through high school and ends the day he killed his first victim, two weeks after graduating from high school.
Needless to say, it's a departure for Lynch, but his Disney fans are already noting the almost eery resemblance between the actor and the killer. The film is due out sometime in 2017.
