Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children is a wildly imaginative book filled with strong, colorful characters, which is why it's such a relief to see film depictions doing them wild justice.

In a series of fresh posters released Friday, we get our best look yet at Eva Green's Miss Peregrine, Asa Butterfield's Jacob Portman, Ella Purnell's Emma Bloom, and the rest of the children in all their peculiar wonder. Each is one of the novel's beloved protagonists, with the exception of Samuel L. Jackson's Barron, who is a villain created especially for the movie.

Author Ransom Riggs (yes, as it happens, that is his birth name) also tweeted out two additional posters on Friday:

In March, the film's first trailer was released. Riggs has since teased another, coming soon.

The film has been produced and directed by Tim Burton, and while the darkest moments certainly betray a touch of the legendary filmmaker, fans of the book series aren't likely to be put off. Small changes in character age and interest have been made, but for the most part this movie will be true to its original tale.

Miss Peregrine hits theaters September 30.
