It doesn’t even seem real, people!
Friends is not heading to the big screen. In fact, it’s not even slated for a small-screen comeback! Recently, a movie trailer featuring the original six went viral, thus leading many hyper-emotional fans of the sitcom to feel all the feels. Unfortunately, it’s a total fake! (Something that’s easily discernible, considering 75% of the trailer is just weirdly jammed clips from Cougar Town.)
The fan-made video was published on Jan. 12, and it has already racked up more than 5 million views. Now that’s truly impressive! The teaser is aptly titled “The One With the Reunion” and briefly shows how Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey drifted apart and came back into each other’s lives.
According to the YouTube description, the fake movie picks up a few years after the Friends finale. Ben and Emma are all grown up; Mike and Phoebe are having marital problems; Monica and Chandler are divorced; Joey can’t find a long-term lover; and Ross and Rachel are still a damn mess.
Of course, people felt personally victimized by the hoax, and took to Twitter to express their deep-rooted distress.
Despite the enduring popularity of Friends, the show’s co-creator Marta Kauffman has long stated that a reunion is not in the cards. "It's not happening. Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family," Kauffman revealed to E! News back in 2013. "And once you have a family, there's no need anymore.”
Well, there you go, folks. The Friends chapter is officially closed.
