The 1991 comedy Father of the Bride told the story of the neurotic George Banks (Steve Martin) who is tasked with throwing his young daughter (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) the wedding of her dreams. The film was a cheesefest that also starred Diane Keaton and Martin Short as a flamboyant wedding planner — but I loved it, the sequel, too.
Now it looks like the Banks family will return for a third installment of Martin's franchise, and I could not be more excited. In an interview with Us Weekly, Scandal's George Newbern (who played the wealthy Bryan MacKenzie) confirmed that a script has been created, and it's really a matter of getting the original cast back together.
"Charles Shyer wrote a script. I know there’s a script out there. And there’s talk," Newbern said. "I don’t know how far it got but I’m sure most of the cast would be into it if the script was right. So maybe that’s just a question of that happening."
MAKE IT HAPPEN, Newbern.
The actor didn't reveal what the third film would be about, but we're down to take a few guesses. Perhaps the script focuses on the youngest Banks kid, Matty (Kieran Culkin). Or maybe it's about George Banks becoming a father for the fourth time. Who knows.
