Thanks to Michael Caine, a few overdue "I told you so's" will be making the rounds today.
During the Film 4 Summer Screen showing of the 2010 flick, Caine seems to have cleared up Inception's hotly debated ending.
For those who don't remember, Caine plays the father of Leonardo DiCaprio's character, Dom Cobb, a thief who can steal what's in your mind by entering your dreams. The film's final shot is famously ambiguous: Is Dom in reality or is he dreaming?
According to Caine, Dom is squared safely in reality:
"When I got the script of Inception, I was a bit puzzled by it. And I said to (director Christopher Nolan), 'I don't understand where the dream is.' I said, 'When is it the dream and when is it reality?' He said, 'Well, when you’re in the scene, it’s reality.' So get that — if I’m in it, it’s reality. If I’m not in it, it’s a dream."
And, because Caine's character is quite predominantly featured in the film's close, we are to believe it was, in fact, reality.
We're guessing we won't be the only ones rewatching Inception tonight.
H/t to the Independent.
