Are you ready for more Ahhhnold and Linda?
On Tuesday night, James Cameron revealed that both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will return for the next installment of The Terminator franchise. It’s been more than 25 years since Hamilton bid adieu to the popular sci-fi movies, so this announcement is exciting to say the least.
Cameron made the big announcement at a private event, where he expressed the impact the actress has had on the storied franchise. "As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return,” explained Cameron.
With Hamilton reprising her iconic role, Cameron is looking to once again make a bold statement on gender roles in action movies. "There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys,” he added, “but there isn’t an example of that for women.”
Tim Miller, whose breakout feature was the critically and commercially successful Deadpool, is slated to direct the forthcoming Terminator film. Thankfully, Cameron will also be involved in the project which is clearly a good sign. The Oscar-winning director has not been involved with the series since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
