Well, it's settled: Will Smith's Genie is blue. Blue as the sky.
During the 61st Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 10, a new trailer for Disney's live-action Aladdin film proved the beloved character has stayed true to his cartoon predecessor.
In December 2018, Entertainment Weekly published an article on the film that revealed a non-blue Genie. After some backlash, the studio promised Genie was blue despite the fact that some early images didn't accurately depict this detail.
To drive the point home, Smith posted a screenshot of his blue Genie during the awards show.
"I told y’all I was gon’ be Blue!! Y’all need to trust me more often!" he wrote on Instagram.
In early February, Aladdin producer Dan Lin assured fans the film featured a "big blue Genie."
"He's big blue Genie," he told Variety. "He's got a great tail, he's really bulky but he's really fun. He brings his own style and hip hop flavor to it."
Looks like we had nothing to worry about after all.
Check out the trailer below, and catch Aladdin in theaters May 24, 2019.
