Star Wars fans were in for a big surprise this morning when it was announced that
Jon Favreau will write and produce a new live-action Star Wars series. Yes, you read that right, and, yes, this is, like, the hundredth new Star Wars project currently in the works.
Favreau, who has directed several movies in the Marvel and Disney universe, including box office hits like Iron Man and The Jungle Book, couldn't hold back his excitement about the new project: “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure," he said in the official press release.
The untitled series will be on Disney’s new direct-to-consumer steaming platform. Although the platform is set to debut in late 2019, Disney has already pulled its Marvel movies from Netflix.
Favreau, who played roles in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, and the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, is currently working on Disney’s highly anticipated live-action The Lion King, which will hit theaters in 2019.
