On Friday, news broke that Emma Watson would be replacing Emma Stone in Greta Gerwig's upcoming (and highly-anticipated) film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. The beloved Harry Potter star is stepping in for Stone, who is unable to join the project due to promotional obligations for the awards season contender, The Favourite. According to Variety, the film is set to go into production next month.
So, which famous March sister is Hermione Granger set to take on?
According to the Variety report, "roles are still being worked out and it is unknown which sister Watson would be playing." However, according to IMDB, Watson will step into the shoes of Meg March, the eldest of the March sisters. Saoirse Ronan will play stubborn and headstrong Jo March. Also appearing in the film will be Florence Pugh (Amy March), Sharp Objects' Eliza Scanlen (Beth March), and the legendary Meryl Streep as Aunt March. Timothée Chalamet, who is fresh off his newfound Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird fame, will appear as the darling Laurie Laurence.
But based on this recent Variety report, it seems nothing is set in stone. So we guess we'll have to wait and see how the roles shake out.
If you ask me, I would love to see Emma Watson as Jo March, but just having her in this film is enough for me. Also, Emma Stone brings in the talent, too, so seeing her drop off this project is, I think, definitely a loss for the film.
