Lisbeth Salander is returning to the big screen.

According to reports, Don't Breathe's Fede Alvarez will direct The Girl in the Spider's Web, which is based off the fourth book in Stieg Larsson's Millennium series.

The film will surprisingly feature an entirely new cast, meaning we won't be seeing Rooney Mara reprise her role as Lisbeth Salander or Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist. Both actors appeared in the American version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which was a remake of the 2009 Swedish film of the same name.

Alvarez is apparently in talks with potential actresses to fill the role of the complex punk hacker, who is, arguably, one of the greatest literary heroines of all time. If Rooney won't do it, may we recommend Noomi Rapace, who was brilliant in the Swedish adaptations.

And as great as it is to see movement within The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo franchise, it's curious that the second and third books in the series (The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest) are being skipped over.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was the first book in Larsson's series. The Swedish author originally planned for a 10-book series, but died suddenly in 2004 after only completing three. On the heels of the success of the series, David Lagercrantz was hired to pen the fourth book.

The Girls in the Spider's Web is set to be released October 5, 2018. And yes, comic book fans, that's indeed the same day as the release of Aquaman
