When The Last Jedi premieres on Friday, fans will finally be able to meet Rose Tico — Tran's character in the film  who is a mechanic for the Resistance. Last month, she reflected on her newfound stardom to Entertainment Weekly. “Growing up I watched a lot of [pop culture] and didn’t really get to see a lot of people that looked like me,” Tran said. “I think that I’m really lucky to be this person, and I get to be part of this franchise. I hope that it is a move in a better direction.”
