Kristen Wiig May Have A MAJOR Role In The 'Wonder Woman' Sequel

And we don't really know how to feel about it...

Kristen Wiig Is Going To Have A MAJOR Role In The 'Wonder Woman' Sequel

Update: Director Patty Jenkins has offiically confirmed Kristen Wiig as Cheetah in Wonder Woman 2 on Twitter:

According to VarietyBridesmaids star Kristen Wiig is in talks to play the villain Cheetah in the highly-anticipated Wonder Woman sequel. After a massive box-office success ($821 million worldwide) of the first installmentpushing a sequel was a top priority for Warner Bros.

Wonder Woman 2 will be set in the '80s during the Cold War. Gal Gadot will be back in the main role, while Patty Jenkins will write, direct, and produce the film.

Cheetah — whose human name is Barbara Ann Minerva — has both the appearance and the skills of a cheetah. She possesses superhuman speed, strength, and reaction time. She is also able to see in the dark, has an enhanced sense of smell, and claws that are preternaturally sharp. If that doesn't sound intimidating, I don't know what does.

And while the idea of having two female main characters is really appealing — and a symbol of female empowerment — Wiig isn't particularly known for portraying dark and vicious characters. Still, the 44-year old has constantly proven her versatility on her work in Saturday Night Live, Despicable Me, and The Martian. So we're even more excited to see how this will turn out.

For the record, Wonder Woman 2 hits theaters on Nov. 1, 2019.
