Boy oh boy is this news making waves for Star Wars fans.
During a lecture at the University of Southern California on Thursday, Disney CEO Bob Iger gave a quick update about Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, which is currently in production.
According to Iger, the series picks up when Han Solo (played by Alden Ehrenreich) is 18 years old and follows him through when he was 24. “There are a few significant things that happen in Han Solo’s life, like acquiring a certain vehicle and meeting a certain Wookiee that will happen in this film,” Iger said. “But you will also discover how he got his name.”
Time out. Wait, what? "How he got his name"?
Though we know a little bit about Han Solo's backstory —mainly, how he was orphaned at a young age and later turned to smuggling — it's weird to think that Han Solo was, at some point, not Han Solo, because Han Solo is Han Solo damnit!
I mean, what if James Bond wasn't James Bond? Or what if Disney's Aladdin was actually some guy named Alfie? Ultimately, if we're going to be forced to accept the fact that Han Solo had, at some point, a different name, let's hope it isn't something like Jek Tono Porkins or something ridiculous like that.
May the force be with you Han Solo, or whoever you are.
