Pop Star Predictions for 2014

(Getty Images)It was a year of change for many of pop's biggest stars in 2013, with a number of teen-oriented performers shedding their squeaky clean images, pop divas continuing to find inventive ways to shed their clothes, and Beyoncé breaking the music marketing machine seemingly overnight. Exciting stuff — but what's in store for the heavy hitters in the coming year? We have some ideas.

Miley Cyrus
At this point, there's very little Miley could do that would actually shock anyone. As the former Disney starlet pointed out in a recent interview with the New York Times, people have come to expect more "outrageous antics" from her, and with an arena tour slated for the first half of 2014, it's safe to say she'll follow through. Expect to see Cyrus wagging her impressively long tongue across the globe over the next several months, and expect controversy to follow should she choose to visit any morally conservative countries (what up, Indonesia!). Just don't expect any apologies.

Justin Bieber
The Biebs has been claiming he intends to retire for the past couple of weeks, despite his management's (somewhat desperate) insistence that he's just joking around. As unlikely as it seems that someone would ever just walk away from an ardent fan base of millions, Bieber has already amassed more than enough riches to keep him in custom cars and drop crotch pants for the rest of his life. But given how serious Bieber has seemed about his desire to be the next Michael Jackson in the past, we're calling his bluff on this quitting business. Don't worry, Beliebers: He's just trying to get a rise out of you to prove a point. Or to pump up his own ego after an abysmal press year. He'll get bored of the endless vacation soon enough. Hopefully he'll shave off that weird little 'stache, too.

Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez shocked her fans at the end of 2013 when she announced the cancellation of the Australia and Asia stretch of her Stars Dance world tour. Gomez claimed she needed the break to "work on herself," which means she'll spend the first few months of the year out of the spotlight with her family (she has an adorable new baby sister to dote on, so we can't say we blame her). Those Disney-trained types aren't very good at not working, however, and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Gomez uses some of her down time to focus on another album — that "personal" record she's indicated she wants to create (when she isn't talking about quitting music altogether).

Beyoncé
The hardest worker in the entertainment industry probably won't let up in 2014, with more dates scheduled on her Mrs. Carter World Tour for the first half of the year. She will, however, continue to be plagued by pregnancy rumors every time she steps out in anything that is not a bikini.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga was on the defensive long before the release of ARTPOP, her long-awaited follow up to Born This Way, directly addressing her detractors lyrically and in performance (remember, if you will, that her opening number at the 2013 MTV VMAs started with a number of disjointed voices screaming with disapproval). With the critical and commercial disappointment of the new album — and the endless onslaught of "What went wrong?" articles — expect her to respond to the backlash head-on as she embarks on a massive tour. And don't be too surprised if new music arrives a lot sooner this time around.

Katy Perry
Now that Katy Perry and John Mayer are officially using their relationship for press, expect to see more awkward television interviews like this one.

Britney Spears
When Britney Spears is not performing as part of her residency at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood over the next two years, she's probably going to be as far away from the spotlight as she possibly can. It's no big secret that Spears is kind of over having to do the whole promotional stroll, and we can't blame her for wanting to spend some quality time with her boys. It's all soccer games and Ugg boots for this superstar.
