No, 'Stranger Things' Fans, Barb Will Not Be Returning to the Show

There will be no Barb resurrection party. Like, ever ever.

Why, oh why is it always the smart, loyal friend who gets the ax?

In a new interview with Variety, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer confirmed (and not for the first time) the sad truth we'd been hesitant to accept: Barbara Holland is never to return...ever.

In the breakout Netflix series' first season, Barbara, studious, intelligent, and cautious BFF to Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) was unceremoniously plucked from the bouncy pool springboard upon which she lounged by the terrifying Demogorgon of the Upside Down, only to end up getting the life sucked out of her in a dark, wet, nasty excuse for a forest...

Needless to say, it did not end well for her. There is no justice in the world, guys.

While Barb was kidnapped toward the beginning of the first season, her death wasn't confirmed until the crew discovered her slimy, decayed body quite a bit later. Even then, though, fans were hesitant to call her done. Could a resurrection have been possible? After all, Will was also kidnapped in the beginning of the series, and he (barely) survived the entire grotesque experience.

Unfortunately, it just wasn't meant to be.

"There’s no resurrecting Barb," the Duffers told Variety. "It was really surprising how much she took off," Matt said. "I related to her, so I think other people did as well."

This is grim news, so we come bearing some positivity: Shannon Purser, the actress behind Barb, is alive and well. You can watch her in The CW's Riverdale, where she plays Ethel Muggs.

Here she is: thriving, happy, and with all her facial features intact.
