5 Things We Learned About 'Star Wars: Episode VII' This Weekend

JJ Abrams revealed an X-Wing, and one movie site reveals what it claims to be the movie's central plot! (Minor Spoilers)

So much Star Wars news dropped this weekend it's almost hard to believe the movie is still more than a year and a half away! We'll start with the official stuff and work our way up to the spoilery stuff.

1. There Will Be X-Wings

5 Things We Learned About 'Star Wars: Episode VII' This Weekend

JJ Abrams posted a second sneak peek video this weekend in a continued effort to raise money for UNICEF through a series of special Star Wars giveaways. (Well they're more like raffles, but there're probably some legal issues with that word.)

In the first video, Abrams showed off a cool practical alien, but in this one he's standing next to a full scale, battle-scarred X-Wing. And it looks pretty amazing. The key takeaway here is that Abrams is committed to building practical versions of these aliens and star fighters so we don't get that overly CG look of the prequel films.

[EDIT: There's been some debate over whether that's actually an X-Wing, and not a Z-95 Headhunter. Well the official Star Wars Twitter account settled it by tweeting, "It is in fact an Episode VII X-wing, not a Z-95." Below the video we've posted the original Ralph McQuarrie X-Wing concept art from 1975.]

2. The Fate of Luke Skywalker's Right Hand

Over the weekend, BadassDigest posted lots of new info on Episode VII's plot. Behind-the-scenes sleuth Devin Faraci says his information has been verified by multiple sources, and that after the standard Star Wars intro scroll, we won't see a starship. We'll see a severed hand floating through space, holding a light saber. That light saber is the object that sets the plot in motion.

3. The Quest Central to Episode VII

According to Faraci, that hand will find its way pulled into the gravity of a desert planet, and the light saber will be found by the movie's two heroes, played by John Boyega, and Daisy Ridley. They'll embark on a quest to return it to the Jedi order.

4. Han & Luke's Relationship

Word is this quest will lead them to Han Solo, who hasn't seen Luke Skywalker in 30 years (since the events of Return of the Jedi). So Luke is kind of missing.

5. The Star of the Show

With so much star power in the new movie, Faraci says Abrams will actually be focusing more on his unknowns, and John Boyega will be the centerpiece of Episode VII as (CHARACTER SPOILER) a former storm trooper!
