When space shuttle Discovery launches Wednesday morning, not only will it be blasting 7 astronauts into space. It will also be carrying an essential piece of exercise equipment named for late night comedian and talk show host Stephen Colbert.

The Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill (COLBERT) is one of two treadmills the astronauts will use to meet their requirement of 8 combined hours of exercise per day. Colbert won an online naming contest held by NASA to name a new node on the International Space Station. After Colbert won the contest, NASA decided to name the node "Tranquility," but instead named its new treadmill after him.

In a pre-recorded video, Colbert wished the astronauts well on their mission. "I just want to congratulate you on a great year. Your dramatic pictures from Cassini. Finding water on Mars, and your dramatic discovery of a new administration that believes in science."
