For weeks now, Madonna has been hyping a mysterious entity called secretprojectrevolution, building up fan anticipation without giving any of the details away. On Monday, the iconic performer called secretprojectrevolution her "proudest achievement as an artist" in a revealing Reddit AMA session, hinting that it was a political undertaking.
On September 24, fans will finally be able to witness what Madonna's been working on so diligently: A 17-minute film she co-directed with photographer Steven Klein. The film marks the launch of Art for Freedom, an "online global initiative to further freedom of expression" that will be curated by VICE and distributed by BitTorrent.
"My goal is to show by the example of secretprojectrevolution my creative commitment to inspire change in the world through artistic expression," Madonna states in a press release. "I hope my film and other submissions to Art for Freedom will be a call-to-action and give people a place to voice their own creative expression to help fight oppression, intolerance and complacency."
Art for Freedom aims to fuel free speech by encouraging people to express their personal meaning of freedom and revolution in public submissions of video, music, poetry, and photography.
The secretprojectrevolution Bundle — including the film and bonus content, like a special handwritten message from Madonna — will be available to download and unlock for free on September 24 at 2pm EST here.
"This film operates on many levels," Steven Klein says. "It examines our private prisons. it questions what we do, how we do it, and how we treat others. It questions our governments, and our collective thought patterns. Think about it — the power of art can lead to peace."
