Talk about major drama!
During its sophomore season, Fox's action thriller Lethal Weapon was plagued by some problematic behind-the-scenes behavior. That drama has now been laid to rest, although fans of the series might not be happy with the outcome.
According to Variety, Clayne Crawford — who plays the unpredictable Martin Riggs alongside Damon Wayan's Roger Murtaugh — has been officially fired. Multiple reports of Crawford's toxic on-set behavior towards the show's cast and crew resulted in his termination.
Now that Lethal Weapon has been renewed for Season 3, Seann William Scott will replace Crawford as a brand-new character who forms a partnership with Murtaugh.
"Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast," stated Michael Thorn, Fox's president of entertainment. "Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can't wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen."
In the Season 2 finale, Riggs was shot during the final seconds of the episode. It's a presumable set up for his death, which would then allow Seann's character to easily fit into the new narrative.
On Sunday, Crawford wrote a rather diplomatic Instagram post acknowledging his firing and wishing his co-stars well for the next season.
