Glee alum Blake Jenner has joined the cast of Netflix's upcoming social thriller, What/If. The anthology series, which also stars Renée Zellweger and Jane Levy, explores "the ripple effect of a single decision that changes the trajectory of an entire life."
According to Deadline, the first 10-episode season will cover "struggling newlyweds" Lisa (Levy) and Sean (Jenner). Zellweger's character will propose a compromising agreement that would alleviate the couple's financial burden.
What/If is from the creator of ABC's Revenge, Mike Kelley. It's certain to be a dark, twisted show that engages viewers and leaves them with lots of questions. Kelley left Revenge due to creative differences. With the freedom Netflix offers, it seems like the perfect platform for such an experimental show.
Jenner's casting comes as a surprise, as the role is sure to test his limits. In the past, he has stuck with musical theater and other more lighthearted projects.
What/If will be a drastic change of pace for him and it'll be interesting to see if he has the chops to thrive in a twisted world. The drama sounds like a challenging, perplexing project, and I'm excited to see what's in store.
Jenner most recently starred in the indie heist film American Animals and finished his run as the Christian in Goodspeed Musicals’s production of Cyrano.
