This show is cursed, y'all.
First Riggs and now Murtaugh. Lethal Weapon was on the cusp of cancellation after Clayne Crawford's toxic, behind-the-scenes behavior went viral. After replacing him with Seann William Scott in Season 3, the show was off to a great start. Now, things have changed yet again.
In a new interview with Electronic Urban Report, the show's star Daman Wayans revealed that he's getting too old for the gig. "I’m going to be quitting the show in December after we finish the initial 13," Wayans explained. "So I really don't know what they're planning, but that's what I'm planning. I'm a 58-year-old diabetic and I'm working 16-hour days."
When he was asked to clarify his comment, Wayans was crystal clear in his delivery. "I'm done. Like Murtaugh said, I'm too old for this," he said.
Wayans even quoted Danny Glover's famous line from the Lethal Weapon film series and revealed he is "going to return to the stage and try to find my smile again."
The decision to leave was surely difficult for Wayans, who stated he is missing out on important life events because of grueling work schedule. "It's hard for me to play this loving, supportive father, husband, and friend on TV and be the guy in life who's telling everybody, 'I can't, I've got to work,'" Wayans said. "I'm giving them enough time to find a replacement."
The task of replacing Wayans won't be easy and, quite frankly, it renders the show unsalvageable. It was hard enough to write out Riggs, so how can Lethal Weapon continue on without its two main characters? It simply does not make sense. Now is the time for Fox to finally plug the on the series because there's no way the show can survive this mess.
