[This post contains spoilers from Game of Thrones Season 7, episode 6 "Beyond the Wall."]
Game of Thrones Season 7's penultimate episode "Beyond the Wall" brought untold misery and distress to Dragonstone, graciously cramming in three minutes of romance at the tail end. We're not bitter though.
Still distraught over Dany's loss, fans could easily have missed Jonerys' tender moment. It was fleeting and subtle, powerful and intimate, and it pretty much solidified their romantic relationship.
As Jon is tucked in bed and recovering from his battle with the White Walkers, Daenerys sits at his side. He awakens, and it's clear he regrets his actions. He immediately apologizes for the death of Dany's dragon, Viserion. If Jon hadn't gone across The Wall with Jorah Mormont, Beric Dondarion, Thor of Myr, and Tormund, Dany wouldn't have had to rescue them and Viserion would still be breathing.
Surprisingly, however, Daenerys is not mad at Jon. She promises it's okay. While she's clearly grieving, she realizes she couldn't have grasped the gravity of the threat if Jon hadn't shown her. She's not interested in revenge, not now. As a matter of fact, it's the softest we've ever seen the Khaleesi, and miracle of miracles, she's finally letting someone in.
Jon can see Dany is upset. He reaches out to her and grabs her hand, gazing intently into her eyes. She pulls away at first, but as they sit, she realizes she wants to be holding his hand as much as he wants to hold hers. She extends her hand back, placing it on his, and the two sit and stare at each other. This much is for sure: It's not the sort of behavior one would expect from platonic friends.
This scene was, at the very least, proof positive that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are being positioned as love interests. For those who just can't get over their relation, how far they'll go is as yet unclear. If they do somehow discover Daenerys is Jon's aunt, it's possible the flame of their love could be snuffed quicker than an ice spear to a dragon.
Game of Thrones Season 7 concludes August 27, 2017 on HBO.
