Following Roseanne Barr's offensive tweets about a former Obama senior advisor, ABC's president Channing Dungey issued a statement announcing the cancelation of Roseanne.
"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show," stated Dungey.
Earlier today Barr sent a tweet saying Valerie Jarrett was the product of the Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes.
After massive backlash, Barr chose to first defend her comment as "a joke," before ultimately apologizing for the tweet, stating she was "leaving Twitter."
"I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste," wrote Barr.
Before ABC announced the cancelation of the comedian's hit show, Wanda Sykes, a consulting producer for the Roseanne revival, took to Twitter to announce she had decided to leave the program in the wake of Barr's racist comments.
Barr's co-star Sara Gilbert, who also serves as the show's executive producer, condemned the comedian's comments as "abhorrent."
The sitcom was a massive ratings success while it lasted, finishing its tenth and final season as the top scripted primetime television series in the 18-49 demographic.
