So long orange jumpsuit, hello black super suit.
Ruby Rose, of Orange Is the New Black fame, has been tapped to play Kate Kane – aka Batwoman – in The CW's latest DC-inspired series.
Viewers can expect to be introduced to Batwoman during the network's annual DC crossover episode in December, which will also feature characters from The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. If The CW orders Batwoman to series, the 32-year-old Australian actress will lead the first TV series to focus on a queer superhero.
"Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence," reads the official network's press releaser. "But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope."
According to Variety, should the show be picked up, it would not air until the 2019-2020 season.
