The First Trailer for HBO's 'Beware the Slenderman' Is Terrifying

It's time to explore the dark corners of the internet...

HBO has released the first trailer for its upcoming true crime documentary, Beware the Slenderman, and it looks creepy as hell. Similar to Making a Murderer, the documentary will rely on news clips, witness accounts, and experts to tell the story of Payton Leutner, a 12-year-old from Waukesha, Wisconsin who was stabbed 19 times by two friends, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, who plotted the murder in order to prove the existence of the Slender Man.

For those of you not familiar with the internet meme, the Slender Man is a tall, faceless boogyman that was birthed out of a 2009 Photoshop contest for the site Something Awful. From there, stories, myths, and fan art quickly spread across the internet

In regards to this case, Leutner survived and the trial is still ongoing.

Beware the Slenderman premiered in March at South by Southwest. It will air on HBO January 23, 2017.
