We waited for what seemed like forever for Season 3 of The Bold Type and, boy, did it deliver. The ladies of Scarlet Magazine returned as their unapologetic, fierce, and empowering selves, and we couldn't be happier to see them bonding and laughing like sisters. As expected, last night's banging premiere was all about killin' it at work and swoon-worthy romantic moments (I’m looking at you, Suttard and Janestripe).
Not only did we heart the premiere, but it put us through the wringer emotionally. There was plenty of heartbreak, shocking twists, and even an upbeat dance party that made us get off the couch and shake what our mama gave us. Hey, if you've got it, flaunt it. Am I right, or am I right? While we can only hope the rest of the season will be this good, for now here are the standout moments that made the Season 3 premiere oh-so delicious!
1. Let's get physical...
Get your shipper hearts ready because this episode started out quite steamy, literally. Between Janestripe’s bedroom antics and Suttard’s intimate shower scene, the opening montage showed our favorite TV couples still thriving even after their questionable post-Paris decisions.
Not only was the Season 3 premiere super steamy, but it also took one couple's relationship to a whole new level. Richard finally asked fashionista Sutton to move in! By the end of the episode, the couple put their faith and trust in each other, knowing they could find a way to seamlessly merge their chaotic personal and professional lives.
2. When in doubt, go nude.
While last season’s finale saw Jane in a love triangle with Dr. Ben and Ryan (aka Pinstripe), things were much different this time around. Following her hot bedroom behavior, it seems Jane picked a winner. In fact, the show's writers hit the punchline hard by giving us a very naked scene with Pinstripe. When the hottie with a body realized Sutton was in the room, he quickly grabbed a magazine to cover his nether-regions. What's the catch? Well, the magazine Pinstripe was holding flipped to a feature article on Dr. Ben! If this uncomfortable awkwardness didn't have you cackling, then your heart must be made of stone.
3. Self-love doesn't come easy, but it's worth the effort.
While two of the show's favorite ships are thriving, things are looking grim for Kadena. By the end of Season 3, Kat was left nursing her broken heart back in Paris. Despite fully embracing her black queer identity, Kat broke up with her one true love, Adena. However, Kat wasn't moping around in last night's episode. Instead, she was living her best life and thriving professionally. Although she's still struggling to be a good role model for Scarlet Magazine readers, Kat knows that working on herself is the most important.
We love Kadena, and it’s not ideal to watch them be unhappy and separate knowing how much love was once between them. Hopefully, Season 3 will bring them back together in a way where their love is more grounded and even more fulfilling.
4. You got this.
When we walk back into Stafford, we find our QUEEN Jacqueline express gratitude for Jane's feature on equal health benefits. The encouraging remark bolstered Jane's spirit, considering Jacqueline has the highest standards for journalism. More importantly, it emphasized a new direction for Jacqueline and Jane's work relationship. Despite being on great terms, this feature showed them that together, they can can stand up for equality and fight for what’s right.
If that's not enough, Kat had her own breakout moment ⏤ and rightfully so. Patrick noticed the uber-fierce journalist and recognized all she's accomplished thus far. When Patrick invited Kat to be a motivational speaker at the next Scarlet Magazine event, we immediately reached for a box of tissues. Kat totally delivered, giving a speech about how grateful she felt for having Scarlet as a platform and an inclusive community that meant "everything" to her. This speech was all the motivation you need to get off your butt and do something big with your life. Consider us floored.
5. Reflecting on what's inside.
While Kat’s speech was empowering, Patrick noticed she was holding back her truth. He eventually helped Kat own her emotions, and there was something so beautiful about seeing Kat’s vulnerability.
By the end of the episode, Kat began posting more on social media ⏤ as Patrick asked her to do ⏤ but this time she didn't hide her feelings. Instead, she embraced them. In an unfiltered, no-makeup selfie, the social media director told her followers it felt good to be honest. Kat's inspirational #BeReal hashtag was all about coming to terms with who you are and loving what you've got. Introspective moments like this make The Bold Type special and help readers know they are not alone as they struggle to overcome their own insecurities.
