Did Zoe Saldana Just Make a Back-Handed Compliment About Britney Spears?

If you'll step down memory lane for a minute, you might remember that 2002 blockbuster flop known as Crossroads, which starred princess of pop Britney Spears and Zoe Saldana as friends on an adventurous road trip to learn do "grow up."

Star Trek: Into Darkness actress Saldana definitely remembers that project well. In the latest issue of Allure, 34-year-old Saldana told the magazine that the experience of working with Spears opened her eyes to the powerful machine that is "celebrity." That's a good thing, yes? Perhaps, not if you consider the way in which Saldana delivered her idea:

"Britney's a very beautiful human being," Saldana said. "After I worked with her, I realized that there was a reason why she was the most popular pop artist over so many other pop artists at that time who were more talented, had better voices. And it was because of her heart, her soul."

OK, so let's get this straight. Hmmm, we'll let that one simmer.

To be fair, though, Saldana had only good things to say about her former co-star. She continues, "[Britney] had the most amazing energy and was always positive and a very discreet person. We were young, too, and got to make a movie about three friends on a road trip. It was so much fun!"

Since we're on the topic of reminiscing, we leave you with this:
