It's official: Tiger Woods
is heading back to the greens for the Masters, beginning April 8. That means we've got a little less than a month to wait before we see the golf great in action on the course again, and apparently no one is happier than the PGA. Tiger Woods is heading back to golf. (Getty)
Woods released a statement this morning, announcing his return to the sport after what will be about 4 months away from the game -- after no less than 10 alleged mistresses surfaced in late 2009. He said he's gone through two months of therapy and will continue his treatment, along with working on his public image and personal life.
We're not sure how Tiger's fans will react to his comeback, but the Masters tournament chair is delighted. He said: "We support Tiger's decision to return to competitive golf beginning at this year's Masters Tournament. Additionally, we support and encourage his stated commitment to continue the significant work required to rebuild his personal and professional life."
Tiger also admitted he has a long way to go to rebuild his personal life in the statement he released this morning. The full statement read (via TMZ
): "The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect. After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta.
The major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played.
I have undergone almost two months of inpatient therapy and I am continuing my treatment. Although I'm returning to competition, I still have a lot of work to do in my personal life.
When I finally got into a position to think about competitive golf again, it became apparent to me that the Masters would be the earliest I could play."Also on Zimbio: Check out a gallery of all the women linked to Tiger Woods during his affair scandal.
