(ABC Family)Switched at Birth is breaking new television ground.
The hit ABC Family series will air an episode told entirely in American Sign Language (ASL) this March. The fully ASL episode, a first for mainstream television, will center on the students of Carlton School for the Deaf as they fight to keep their school open. Daphne (
Katie Leclerc) leads the students in a protest, while Bay (
Vanessa Marano) finds herself marginalized as one of the few hearing students at the school.
The storyline was inspired by the real-life “Deaf President Now” protests at Gallaudet
University that took place 25 years ago this March.
Switched at Birth's special ASL episode will air on Monday, March 4 at 8/7c on ABC Family.
