First, there was A Deadly Adoption, the incredibly serious, absolutely stoic "high-stakes thriller" in which a "maniacal surrogate" ruins the lives of her hopeful adoptees.
Then, there was absolutely no A Deadly Adoption (you naughty press), as after the film's stars Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell found out the "top-secret project" had been leaked, they were simply not having it.
Here's the statement that Ferrell gave in early April:
“We are deeply disappointed that our planned top secret project was made public. Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forego the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film.”
Now, the film is back on - live on Lifetime - the general consensus being that, serious movie or not, it's hard to take it seriously.
We do find it most believable that the notorious pranksters got together and had a solid chuckle about the project prior to taking it on.
But, hey, maybe we should all just listen to Kristen.
