This is all you'll see on the upcoming movie's official site. (From batmanvsupermandawnofjustice.com)Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is now officially the title of
Zack Snyder's upcoming DC-universe movie, which will bring the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel together onscreen in a lead-up to a planned
Justice League movie. Given the trajectory of the franchise, the title makes perfect sense, even if it's a little anticlimactic. You can even check out
the official site now, which literally has nothing on it but a newly revealed dual SuperBat logo (see above).
We sure have been getting a lot of hype lately for a movie that's still two years away. That could be because, as Warner's official press release today points out, "filming is underway" and they want to get ahead of the leaks by releasing their own images, and their own information. That's one way to control the hype.
In other
Batman v Superman news, it turns out the Dark Knight might not be as dark as we first thought. After
tweeting the first photo of Batman in his new suit last week, we assumed Snyder was going with a monochrome look lifted straight out of the
Christopher Nolan playbook. Not so, says filmmaker and geek royalty
Kevin Smith. In his
latest Hollywood Babble-On podcast, Smith says he's seen another photo of the suit, and it's Batman's more traditional blue-and-gray.
"It's like, 'Dude, that's a monochrome photo. You know what that means, one chrome." He went on to explain, "If you want to see what this f---ing suit looks like, you just go to Frank Miller's
The Dark Knight Returns, go to the third book, 'Hunt the Dark Knight,' it's the exact f---ing outfit he's wearing."
Smith is referring to the third issue in Miller's influential four-issue 1986 Batman miniseries,
The Dark Knight Returns. That volume is responsible for the Superman/Batman fight that Snyder is obviously drawing from this time around. Below is a picture of that version of Batman along with Snyder's official picture of the Batsuit, and a colorized version created by a
fan posting on io9.com.
