Amid an ongoing battle with Sony and Dr. Luke for the right to create music, Kesha has offered fans a very special surprise.
In a performance that came as a pleasant shock to attendees, EDM artist Zedd welcomed the 29-year-old on stage with him during his pre-scheduled Coachella Music Festival set.
Kesha sang Zedd's "True Colors," the title song from his newest album.
While Coachella is known for unexpected cameos, Kesha has kept a low profile since legally requesting to be released from her contract with Sony. Producer Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald (Dr. Luke), she claims, had sexually harassed and molested her, making him impossible to work with and leaving her trapped in an abusive workplace.
Numerous stars have spoken out in favor of her release, one such celeb being Zedd, who reached out to Kesha via Twitter in February. Others include Taylor Swift, who donated $250,000 in a bid of support.
The "Die Young" singer also posted to her own social media while at the event, teasing fans that her Zedd performance wasn't all she had in store.
"True Colors" was an especially fitting choice, given the song's lyrics and the particularly contentious battle she continues to fight: "No, no, no, no I won't apologize for the fire in my eyes. Let me show you my true colors."
Fans have since offered widespread support and love:
Other surprise appearances have included Nas, and Kanye West, who joined A$AP Rocky on stage Friday.
