The TV landscape has proven that superhero-themed shows have become a permanent fixture in most networks' primetime line-ups. While it's certainly entertaining to immerse ourselves in the fictional worlds these series provide, it's also important to note that we still live on a planet with real people facing real, complicated issues.

The stars of CW's hit shows The Flash and Arrow stopped to chat with Zimbio on the PaleyFest red carpet. We asked them two simple, though meaningful and thematic questions: Who is your personal superhero and is there a group of people in this world who are in need of a superhero the most? Check out their replies below!

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash)

Personal Superhero? "My mom. I think a lot of people would hopefully say that. My mom has always been amazing from the get go and is still supportive and excited about this [show] and all that is happening to me."

Group that needs a superhero? "How about all bullied kids growing up across the world right now? Adolescence is hard enough. We don’t need to deal with people being mean to each other for no reason."

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    Colton Haynes (Roy Harper/Arsenal)

Personal superhero? "My older brother, for so many reasons. I could go on and and on."

Group that needs a superhero? "I really support the Elton Johns AIDS Foundation."

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance/Black Canary)

Personal superhero? "The Black Canary is awesome."

Group that needs a superhero? "I’m really supportive of anti-bullying online. I feel like that’s been a thing that’s going on and somebody needs to go out there. [People] are kind of getting together on their own, though, and I think that’s really incredible that they’re standing up for themselves. So maybe they don’t really need a superhero, but I want to be their superhero."

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    Candice Patton (Iris West)

Personal superhero? "My personal favorite superhero is Batman. I talk about that all the time. I grew up watching Batman movies and watching cartoons."

Group that needs a superhero? "I have a heart for the homeless. That’s always something that has tugged at my heart strings."

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn/Dark Archer)

Personal superhero? "I have always been a fan of Iron Man and Aquaman. I actually said to my husband Scott the other day, 'they are going to come out with a DC outfit for Aquaman. Do you think if I bought it, you'd swim around the swimming pool for me?'"

Group that needs a superhero? "We need an openly gay superhero, and whether that’s a male or female, that’s another thing."

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow)

Personal superhero? "I’m really lucky. I have a lot of amazing women in my life who are moms, but also work and have careers. I think women like that are superheroes to me."

Group that needs a superhero? "There are so many people. I posted this thing online last week from the UNICEF Tap Project and it’s devastating how other parts of the world need water, which we take so much for granted here."

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak)

Personal superhero? "My mom. She's always been by my side. My dad's really cool too."

Group that needs a superhero? "I think we all need a superhero. It would be great if someone would just fly around to every single country and fix the problems they see."

  • 'The Flash' and 'Arrow' Stars Chat Superheroes

    Andrew Kreisberg (Executive Producer)

Personal superhero: "Greg Berlanti, who is our partner in all of this [Arrow and The Flash] and has really made all of this come true."

Group that needs a superhero: "Who doesn't need a superhero? Everybody needs somebody out there who's selfless and courageous and there for them. I don't think there's anyone in the world who doesn't need that."
