Zimbio Exclusive Interview: Colin Trevorrow of 'Safety Not Guaranteed'

Sometimes a movie comes along that has a hook so delicious, you just can't wait to sink your teeth into it. Safety Not Guaranteed is one of these films. The story is based on this real-life ad, discovered by writer Derek Connolly:

"Wanted: someone to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before. SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED."

Aubrey Plaza (Getty Images).
The ad became the inspiration for the film when Connolly saw Aubrey Plaza in Funny People and knew she'd be the perfect actress to investigate the author. The film follows three magazine employees (Plaza, Jake Johnson, and Karan Soni) as they track down the man behind the ad and enter a world they can't quite figure out. The story is filled with hilarious scenes and one-liners and is destined to become an audience favorite this summer. Director Colin Trevorrow led the production and has crafted a truly memorable comedy that contains real sweetness and some deft sci-fi angles. We jumped at the chance to sit down with the 35 year-old director in his hometown of San Francisco and discuss his film, his favorite movies, and the bed bugs that got after Aubrey during filming.
